MT Introduces Remote Control at your fingertips with MT Remote Control and C-Link
The number of autonomous and remotely controlled ships is increasing rapidly due to the recent developments in sensor technology, connectivity at sea and analysis/decision support software and algorithms.
MT Remote Control ensures safe and effective control of a ship's steering system, controlling vessels remotely from a workboat deck or as a backup control system for autonomous ferries. With MT Remote Control you can control multiple drones from a mothership. In combination with the C-Link 2-360, it has a range of 5 km.
MT's family of C-Link 15 wireless radios are designed for medium-range network constellations that link together a cluster of vessels, platforms and/or barges in a shared maritime or combined maritime/shore-side network.
C-Link is certified and approved for real-time control systems.
ABS Conducts First-Ever Remote DP/FMEA In Joint Effort with Edison Chouest Offshore and Marine Technologies
April 6, 2020 — On Tuesday, March 24, ABS performed the first ever remote Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DP/FMEA) as part of completing the special survey of machinery utilizing Edison Chouest Offshore's state-of-the-art Remote Monitoring Center and CAT ISLAND platform supply vessel.
Chouest has the most advanced PSV fleet in the world, capable of providing remote troubleshooting and inspections. This reduces the need for technicians to travel to vessels, and supports social distancing, which is crucial in today’s business to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). ABS and ECO used this opportunity to pilot this DP/FMEA survey.
These remote offerings also reduce emissions and improve efficiency for Chouest's clients by limiting business travel emissions to and from port locations.
ABS' Senior Surveyor Shawn Poulin and Surveyor Charlie Morrow operated from the Remote Monitoring Center for the event. "This was a unique experience and ABS plans to continue to work with Chouest and to use this process to execute remote surveys in future where possible," said Poulin.
Chouest's 312 class of PSVs have the features needed to make these remote surveys possible. These features on the 312 Class as well as ECO's RMC allow the execution of remote pilots with a key step on the road to Digital Class.
ABS conducts special surveys every five years. During the special survey, a full FMEA trial is carried out to evaluate processes and identify how they may fail and to assess the relative impact of different failures in order to identify the parts of the process that are most in need of change.

About the Remote Monitoring Center
Located at ECO's corporate headquarters in Cut Off, LA the Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) sets Chouest apart with its unique ability to remotely monitor vessel and cargo movement throughout the fleet. The RMC was created through a collaboration between several ECO affiliates, including Marine Technologies, and allows for real-time monitoring of vessel systems.
Chouest's 312 series of platform supply vessels and newer vessels within their fleet are remotely monitored 24/7 with over 4,000 data points per vessel. The entire Chouest fleet as a whole monitors around 300,000 data points every 10 seconds. This information is used to highlight concerns, prevent failures and eliminate downtime.
